KNOWRISK® DATA
KnowRisk® provides a choice of four different data storage options
This provides the most flexible ERM software environment available anywhere
Single Profile files are local personal documents. Each Single Profile file stores Risks, Consequences, Controls and Control Samples associated with a single project or business unit. They do not have any kind of access and permissions control – any user who has physical access to a Single Profile file can open it and change its contents in any model of KnowRisk® (except for Web). There is no Knowledge Base and associated features, and there are no means of exchanging or sharing information between Single Profile files.
Standard databases are implemented using the MS Jet database engine (Access). They are easy to create, manipulate and maintain and do not require third party software and/or royalties. They are ideal for local data sources as they are stand-alone files and do not require database server software. The technology employed has been designed and streamlined for small to medium size local data storage. Although Standard databases operate happily in multi-user environments, security control is weak and performance on the LAN in should be monitored.
Standard databases can store data for many independent or related projects or business units that can be organised in complex Profile hierarchies. Standard databases have a fully featured Knowledge Base which learns over time. Information can be exchanged between Standard databases one Profile at a time using Single Profile files.
Professional databases are implemented using database server technology. They are scalable, providing very good performance in multi-user environments and can store large amounts of information. Security is enforced by the database server. They require the services of IT specialists (DBA) to setup and maintain.
Professional databases can store data for a very large number of independent or related projects or business units that can be organised in complex Profile hierarchies. Professional databases have a fully featured Knowledge Base which learns over time. Professional databases also have the option of a fully customisable history log tracking all changes. Information can be exchanged between Professional databases one Profile at a time using Single Profile files.
The Enterprise server is a proprietary component sitting between KnowRisk® Enterprise (and Web) clients and the Professional database providing the data storage. The result is a three tier architecture with all the associated flexibility and benefits. In addition to the data exchange options available for Standard and Professional databases, the Enterprise server also offers a fully customisable and extremely powerful database merge feature.
Additional features (such as e-mail alerts) are only available to Enterprise server data sources.
As we move up the models ladder, more data storage options become available.
The Enterprise client is the most versatile and can access all databases.
There are no practical limits to the number of databases that can be access by an authorised user of KnowRisk® provides a choice of four different data storage options.
